Review

Listen back for four useful signals

  • ✓ Did you answer the question directly in the first sentence?
  • ✓ Did you connect ideas with parce que, donc, cependant or par exemple?
  • ✓ Did you include one specific example rather than several vague ideas?
  • ✓ Could you continue after the follow-up without restarting your answer?

Frequently asked questions

Questions learners often ask

What should a B1 French speaker be able to discuss?

At B1, you should be able to describe experiences, explain plans, give reasons for opinions and handle familiar situations with connected sentences.

How long should a B1 answer be?

Aim for roughly 45–90 seconds in practice. The goal is not a fixed length but a complete answer with a reason, example and relevant detail.

How can I stop giving very short answers?

Use a repeatable sequence: answer directly, explain why, add an example and finish with a contrast or consequence.

Should I correct mistakes while speaking?

Correct yourself briefly when meaning is affected, but avoid restarting every sentence. Finish the answer first, then repeat it with one improvement.
